NIR – Nordiskt Immateriellt Rättsskydd (Nordic Intellectual Property Law Review)


NIR is a law review that deal with intellectual property and litigation against unfair competition primarily in the Nordic countries. NIR have a long history. The first number was published 1932. Originally the review was named Nordic Review for the protection of industrial property, but the increasing importance of copyright lead to a name chande as early as 1949 to Nordic Intellectual Property Law Review – NIR.

The first editor of NIR waz Åke v. Zweigbergk, later on generalpresident for the swedish Patent office. His work as editor waz practised in close cooperation with the professor of the then Stockholm school of higher education (later Stockholms university) Gösta Eberstein, who also was chairman of the first editorial committee together with Alfred J. Bryn (Oslo) Alb. v. Jørgensen (Copenhagen) and Yrjö Pulkkinen (Helsinki). Since 2002 the reciew is published by a swedish non profit association, Föreningen Tidskriften NIR – Nordiskt Immateriellt Rättsskydd. The board of the association consists today of professor Ulf Bernitz (Stockholm) (chairman), advokat Christian Akhøj (Copenhagen), professor Mogens Koktvedgaard (Copenhagen), advokat Eeva Hakoranta (Helsinki), advokat Pekka Tarkela (Helsinki), dipl. chem. Jan E. Helgerud (Oslo), advokat Kjell Torkildsen (Oslo) and professor emeritus Gunnar Karnell (Stockholm).

The editorial work is made within the frameword of the NIR editorial staff and the NIR editorial council. Chief editor since 1998 is docent Per Jonas Nordell (Stockholm). NIR also have national editors in all nordic countries. Swedish editor is jur. kand. Mikael Pawlo (Stockholm), Danish editor is docent Jens Schovsbo (Copenhagen), Finnish editor is tf. professor Marcus Norrgård (Helsinki), Norwegian editor is dr. jur. Ole-Andreas Rognstad (Oslo) and Icelandic editor is professor Eirikur Tómasson (Reykjavik). The editorial council consists of professor Niklas Bruun (Helsinki) (chairman), lawyer, dr. jr. Per Håkon Schmidt (Copenhagen), lawyer Astri M. Lund (Oslo), professor Jan Rosén (Stockholm) and jur. dr h.c. Sten Tengelin (Stockholm), they answer together with the editorial staff for the editorial content.

Since 2002 NIR every yearly edition consists of six printed numbers. The size of the printed yearly edition have been increasing over time. In 1993 a yearly edition comprised of 160 pages, today the average size of a yearly edition is 600 pages of edited text. Added to that is about hundred pages consisting of advertisements. Together with the printed edition NIR is published digitally at the law reviews homepage which grants subscribers access to the total content of the printed review – and much more.
